Tulipa tarda

Tulipa tarda
More tulips from my garden and this time it is the Tulipa tarda. I find it very pretty in it's simplicity. Have you got an English name for it? I'm sure you have this tulip in the northern states of US, Canada and GB.
The plant is about 10-20 cm tall (up to 8 inches), dark green stem, 3-7 light green leaves that froms a rosette. The flowers are quite small up to 5 cm in diameter,

Another positive thing about the species tulips are that they are early, most of the hybridized are in bloom much later and then after they flowered I

Sex - Tulip style

Pistil and Stamens

I think this photo at the top actually is a quite sexy picture of the center of a Tulipa showing multiple connate carpels, a compound pistil, surrounded by stamens.

With a Scent och Lemon and Saffron

I just want to show you this remarkable out of the ordinary tulip, not like any other in my mixed tulip bouquet. It does not really look like a tulip more like a Peony with its feathery leaves and it is fragrant like my white Peonies too, a scent of lemon and saffron, very interesting indeed. Name? Unfortunatly no name but it looks like a Mondial double tulip although Mondial is more white in

Tulips in the gravel - Tulipa

Do you remember that I did some late planting of bulbs in November last year? Here are the result, tulips in the gravel! I just love botanical tulips and my deers doesn't likes then, perfect. I think I like them so much because they are 'in floribus' early and they are so small, pretty and really genuine looking. Irresistible Botanical Tulips

I have managed to do some last minute planting today, last but not least important were the botanical tulips. They have a given place in Tyra's Garden. This year I had to move my existing tulips because I needed the space for another project. I dug them up and left them on the ground for a few days. Big mistake someone, probably a rabbit had a feast, a giant bulb party! So...I had to buy some new
