Purple June - En Juni i lila
Ops! June started out with an explosion in purple, Irises, Lilacs, Chives, Sage & Rhododendron... the list could go on. I think purple is a favorite, it goes so very well with all the shades of green. In my potager there are of course very much of the colour green, the cabbages, kales, onions and so on and it look really pretty with the violet/lilac/purple. I know in July I will say the same

Flowers of India - The Lotus Flower
The biggest flower in India and probably in the world! I stumbled on this magnificent Lotus flower in New Delhi. It is The Bahá'í House of Worship. Isn't it fantastic? Built in 1986, 40 meters tall and it is capable to hold 2,500 people. It's number of visitors per year 4,5 million or 13 000 everyday! More about the Bahá'í religion below. The central theme of Bahá'u'lláh's message is that humanity

Trädgårdsskribenten Lena Israelsson
One Saturday last summer I got a visit from a person I really do admire a lot. It was the famous Swedish authoress Lena Israelsson. She contacted me one day about a visit to my garden, Tyra's Garden, overwhelmed with joy I said yes of course. She came on a sunny morning and we had a great time. Photos were taken of my garden, she made an interview and she was very kind to sign and write something

Potage d'oignon - Onion Soup
Today it´s time for a classic soup.

Bad weather...kill some time with Slowbaking....
.....this bread takes two days to make, but it IS worth waiting for. It is from the most southern region of Sweden, Skåne. Rather dark and quite sweet bread made from rye, flavoured with caraway seeds.Black rye bread, Tyra baking bread...no Tyra baking bread! no...but it is a pretty picture. Today I baked four loafs of this marvellous 'Skånsk Kavring'. I found the recipe in one of my bread books,

Squash and Pumpkin Parade
CLICK TO ENLARGE!Cucurbita maxima Duchesne 'Blue Hubbard' and 'Marina di Chioggia' are the green ones at the bottom. The yellow/orange one I think really looks like a how pumpkin should look like, it's a Pumpkin Racer F1. The rest are just small one's that I grow purely for decorations. Blue Hubbard has got this wonderful bright orange flesh, good for cooking.More about 'Blue Hubbard' in Swedish.

The Big Dig part II. The Roses
The Roses Done, 39 roses are down ready for the long rest. Det var verkligen ett slavjobb. Tungt och skitigt rent ut sagt. Längst ner i botten under själva planteringsgropen lade jag stallgödsel, ingen rolig historia, sedan jord, vatten, ros och jord igen kupat upp runt rosen. Hoppas att det blir bra. Jag är ju definitivt novis på rosor. Men man lär så länge man lever. The list of the roses in the

In - Law Weekend
In -Law Weekend in Umeå. A lot of fun, food & drink, 'relax' and walks. A visit to Gammlia and the "Egil the tug" museum. The city offers world-class art, drama, films, industries, music and research. It aims to attract more companies, break new construction records and, not least become the European Capital of Culture 2014. Umeå is one of Sweden's fastest growing cities. The average age of the

Tyra's Raspberry Jam
Each year I make a few jars of lovely raspberry jam. I pick my berries when ripe and that is in July and August here on my latitude. Then I throw them in the freezer for later use. Normally I make jams on cold, grey and rainy winter days but this last weekend I needed some lovely jam for my waffles and the shelves were empty.I have these absolutely brilliant jam jars from Italy called Quatre

The Botanical Garden of Uppsala
On our way to our ‘summerhouse’ we decided to stop at The Botanical Garden in Uppsala . Uppsala is halfway and perfect for a quick stop. Do some shopping, have lunch or do something more interesting like this time a visit to a botanical garden. Miss M and I chose to have coffee first at a very nice Café called ‘Fågelsången’. The sun was shining from a crystal clear September sky so we were able

An Inconvenient Truth - En obekväm sanning.
"Faran är den största vi någonsin stått inför".Picture from climatecrisis.net See the movie! An Inconvenient Truth Humanity is sitting on a ticking time bomb. If the vast majority of the world's scientists are right, we have just ten years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet into a tail-spin of epic destruction involving extreme weather, floods, droughts, epidemics and

Girasole - turns towards the sun!
Girasole Girasole is the italian namn for the Sunflower, Helianthus annuus L., this remarkable flower. Such a pretty name I think, gira+sole and it does turn towards the sun. The stem of the flower can grow as high as 3 metres tall. Oil from the Sunflower, extracted from the seeds, is used for cooking, as a carrier oil and to produce biodiesel. In Tyra's Garden I simply enjoy there beauty and

I´m back!
I´m back! Fwjooo! Sailing is hard work... It is so VERY nice to be back with both feet on the ground and my hands in the soil...hmhm...dirty... I like it. I think it took me less than 2 minutes to put on my straw hat and garden shoes. But do not get me wrong, I love sailing! We have had a wonderful time at sea. The cruising has been fantastic, extremely good winds for sailing....... 475 nautical
